Coates Village Show is bursting onto the green in 2017!

The Coates Village show has been an annual afternoon of fun for families for over 10 years, and this year it is going to be even better. As well as the usual attractions in the church grounds, this year there will be a range of activities on the village green!

The Coates Village show is actually two events. The Show competition in the morning, where entrants can put forward a range of produce and crafts to be judged against other entries with the ultimate goal of being crowned ‘Overall Winner’. The other event is a fun afternoon for all the family with lots of exciting activities.

Similar to previous years the competition will have categories for Vegetables, Fruit and Salad, Flowers and Plants, Cookery, Photography, Art, Handicraft and Farming as well as a range of categories specifically for children.

Entry to the competition is open to everyone living in Whittlesey, Pondersbridge, Eastrea, Coates, Turves and surrounding farms and smallholdings, as well as any students that go to the schools in this area, no matter where they live.

In the afternoon, starting around 1.00pm, there will be the usual range of activities in the grounds of Holy Trinity including Sweet Tombola, raffles and a range of stalls and games offering chances to win and buy! And of course your chance to see the produce and crafts that have been entered into the morning’s competition. But this year we are expanding onto North Green with additional stalls, a bouncy castle and lots of other fun activities for all the family!

The full programme for the day, including details of the morning competition and entry forms is in the Show Schedules. These will be available from mid-June, in local shops and pubs at a price of 50p, or can be downloaded for free from this page when available.

The 2017 Coates Village Show will be on 15th July, at Holy Trinity and North Green, Coates. Closing date for entries is 12.00 noon on Thursday 13th July.

Coates Citizen of the Year 2017 – We need your vote!

The Coates Citizen of the Year is an annual event that was launched in 2011. It celebrates a person, who has been voted for by fellow villagers, who has contributed significantly to the village over recent years.

We are now looking for your help in choosing the candidates for the Coates Citizen of the Year for 2017. We all know someone who is helpful, but can you think of someone who goes out of their way to help many villagers or the local community. Candidates can be of any age, and can be put forward for any reason that you feel is worthy. Maybe a teenager that helps other people tend their gardens, a person that runs a local club, meeting or charity, the helpful neighbour who always has the time when you need a hand, or a villager who is well known by everyone for their kindness.

If you have someone in mind, please include your name and contact details, the name of the person you wish to nominate, and a brief explanation of why. Nominations can be sent via email to or in writing to Mark Fairbank, 14 Church Gardens, Coates. PE7 2BF. Closing date for nominations is Monday 10th July 2017.

The winner will be announced at the Coates Village Show on Saturday 15th July, at Holy Trinity Church, Coates.  Full details ofthe show will be published in the schedule which will be available from the Village Shop, local pubs and on this website by mid June.
